WebThe following are some common terms to know when discussing computer networking: IP address: An IP address is a unique number assigned to every device connected to a network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication.Each IP address identifies the device’s host network and the location of the device on the host network. This article lists protocols, categorized by the nearest layer in the Open Systems Interconnection model. This list is not exclusive to only the OSI protocol family. Many of these protocols are originally based on the Internet Protocol Suite (TCP/IP) and other models and they often do not fit neatly into OSI layers.
