WebSee, normally dwarves will place an empty barrel in a food stockpile so there's already one there to put food in when they need it (which is probably where all your barrels are going), but they won't do that if the number of available barrels is smaller than the number of reserved barrels. WebDwarves require about 2 units of food each season. Dwarves that go without food will do the obvious: become increasingly hungry, work more slowly, become more and more unhappy, and eventually die of starvation.
